What is the "Salatun-Nariya" dua?

The term "Salatun-Nariya" in Arabic literally means "the prayer related to fire". Scholars explain that this name comes from the belief that reciting Salatun-Nariya frequently is a means to extinguish the fire of trials and tribulations.

There are many hadiths that mention sending abundant blessings upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as a means for prayers to be accepted and for relief from difficulties. For example, Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“Your supplication remains suspended between heaven and earth and does not ascend until you send blessings upon your Prophet (ﷺ).” (Tirmidhi).

Ubayy ibn Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: “O Messenger of Allah, I send many blessings upon you. How much of my supplication should I dedicate to you?” The Prophet (ﷺ) replied:

“As much as you wish.” (Tirmidhi).

"Salatun-Nariya" is one of the prayers recited in honor of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). However, it is not found in any authentic or weak hadith. It is attributed to Shaykh Ahmad Rifai (may Allah have mercy on him), a well-known leader of a tariqa (Sufi order). Ahmad Rifai was born in the village of Umm Ubayda in Iraq in the year 512 AH. Following his tradition, some devoted Muslims continue to recite it today. It is said that reciting it 4,444 times has been experienced as a means for needs to be fulfilled and prayers to be answered by Allah’s help.

"Salatun-Nariya" is recited as follows: «Аллаһуммә, солли солатән камиләтән уә сәллим сәламән таммән алә сәйидина Мұхаммадин, алләзи тәнхаллу биһил уқоду уә тәнфарижу биһил куробу уә туқзо биһил хауаижу уә туналу биһир роғоибу уә хуснул хоуатими уә юстасқол ғомаму би уәжһиһил карими уә алә алиһи уә сохбиһи фи кулли ләмхатин уә нәфасин би адади кулли маълумин лака».

Meaning: “O Allah! Send perfect blessings and complete peace upon our master Muhammad, by whom knots are untied, difficulties are relieved, needs are fulfilled, desires are attained, good endings are achieved, and by whose noble face clouds are given rain by the will of the Most Merciful. And bestow this upon his family and companions in every moment and every breath, as many times as You know.”

Nevertheless, it is also permissible to recite other forms of salawat and to seek Allah’s help and mercy by sending blessings and peace upon the Prophet (ﷺ).
