Can a person in a different location from the imam follow the imam via audio connection?

When performing prayer in congregation, the places of the imam and the congregation must be physically or legally considered as one. This unity is achieved by the rows being adjacent. If the prayer is performed within the same building, the spaces inside are regarded as one. Accordingly, if a floor used as a mosque in a multi-story building cannot accommodate all the congregation, it is valid for those standing on the floors directly adjacent above or below to follow the imam, provided they are informed of the imam’s movements via loudspeaker or the muezzin’s announcement. It is not necessary for them to see the imam or those who see the imam. However, if the audio connection is lost and the followers cannot track the imam’s movements, their prayer becomes invalid. (Ibn Abidin, Reddü’l-muhtâr, 1/550-551, 586-587) It is not permissible for those in places separated from the imam’s location by a road, river, or similar obstacles that break the unity of the space to follow the imam.
