Can women fold their hands in prayer the same way as men?

It is Sunnah in prayer to fold the hands by placing the right hand over the left. (Bukhari, Adhan, 87 [740]; Muslim, Salat, 54 [401]) However, there are different narrations regarding where exactly the hands should be folded. Based on these narrations and the practices of the Companions and the Tabi'un, men fold their hands below the navel according to some schools of thought, above the chest according to others, and between the chest and the navel according to yet others.

According to the consensus of scholars who accept that folding the hands in prayer is Sunnah, women should fold their hands over their chest. This manner of folding is considered more in line with the spirit of modesty due to the physical structure of women. (Mawsili, al-Ikhtiyar, 1/49)
