Can zakat be given to one's mother-in-law and father-in-law?

Zakat can be given to a mother-in-law and father-in-law if they are poor. This is because there is no direct ascendant or descendant relationship (usul or furu) between the zakat giver and these individuals, nor is the giver religiously obligated to support them.
