Can zakat be paid through proxy, money transfer, EFT, etc.?

A person may give their zakat directly by hand, or they may appoint someone as a proxy or use a money transfer to deliver it. What matters is that the zakat reaches the rightful recipient. (Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar, 2/269-270) However, any transfer or EFT fees should not be deducted from the zakat amount; they must be paid separately.
