Does a prosthetic eye or discharge from the eye invalidate wudu?

There is consensus among scholars that it is not required to wash the inside of the eyes during wudu. (Mevsılî, el-İhtiyâr, 1/7; Ibn Abidin, Reddü’l-muhtâr, 1/97; Nawawi, el-Mecmū‘, 1/369) Therefore, prosthetic eyes do not prevent the validity of wudu. The prosthesis itself does not invalidate wudu, nor does the discharge of something considered ritually pure, such as tears, from the eye. It is narrated: “Wudu is not required due to tears or nasal discharge.” (Abdurrazzaq, el-Musannaf, 1/146 [559]) However, according to the Hanafi school, if something ritually impure such as blood, pus, or discharge comes out of the eye, wudu is invalidated. (Marghinani, el-Hidāya, 1/17)

According to the Shafi‘i school, wudu is not invalidated by anything that comes out of the body except what exits from the front or back passages, so discharge such as pus or blood from the eye does not invalidate wudu. (Mawardi, el-Hāwī, 1/199-200; Shirbini, Mughni’l-muhtāj, 1/140)
