Does ear discharge invalidate ablution?

Discharge from the ear, navel, or eye that occurs without pain or discomfort does not invalidate ablution. However, if the discharge is accompanied by pain or discomfort, ablution is invalidated according to the Hanafi school, since pain indicates the presence of a wound, and fluid coming from a wound breaks ablution. (Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar, 1/147) According to the Shafi'i school, ablution is only invalidated by things that exit from the front or back private parts; fluids coming from other parts of the body do not break ablution. (Mawardi, al-Hawi, 1/199-200)
