Has a prophet been sent to every community, and how many prophets have there been?

The Qur'an informs us that from the first prophet Adam (a.s.) to the last prophet Muhammad (s.a.s.), many prophets have come and gone, and that Allah has sent a prophet to every community. (Yunus, 10/47; an-Nahl, 16/63; Fatir, 35/24) In this context, it is stated: "O Muhammad! Indeed, We sent messengers to the communities before you as well." (al-Hijr, 15/10) and "Indeed, We sent a messenger to every community, [saying], 'Worship Allah and avoid false gods...'" (an-Nahl, 16/36). These verses show that throughout history, Almighty Allah (c.c.) has not left humankind without a prophet in general.

The Qur'an also states: "We do not punish [any people] until We have sent a messenger." (al-Isra, 17/15) and "Indeed, We sent messengers before you. Among them are those whose stories We have told you, and among them are those whose stories We have not told you." (al-Mu’min, 40/78), which clearly indicate that the number of prophets sent is not limited to the 25 prophets mentioned in the Qur'an. However, there is no definite information about the exact number of prophets.
