Is it permissible to clap, chant slogans, or whistle during a funeral burial?

It is Sunnah to accompany the funeral procession to the grave. When the Prophet Muhammad listed the rights of a Muslim over another Muslim, he also included the duties related to funerals. In addition to being a final duty owed to a deceased Muslim, funeral ceremonies serve to remind the living of death and encourage them to reflect on the Hereafter and take heed. For this reason, shouting, wailing loudly, clapping, chanting slogans, whistling, ululating, or making cheers during funeral ceremonies is not permissible. Islamic scholars have even considered it disliked (makruh) to recite the takbir loudly during funeral ceremonies, let alone such behaviors. (el-Fetâva’l-Hindiyye, 1/162) Therefore, those present at a funeral should follow the procession with calmness and dignity. This is also a requirement of showing respect to the deceased.
