Is it permissible to wipe over compression stockings?

Special stockings worn for varicose vein treatment are considered like bandages applied to fractures or dislocations. It is permissible to wipe over a bandage on a fracture or dislocation. (Ibn Maja, Taharah, 134 [657]; see also Kasani, Bada’i, 1/13-14; Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar, 1/278) Therefore, there is no objection to wiping over compression stockings while performing ablution. However, if the compression stocking does not cover all the areas of the foot that must be washed, the uncovered parts must be washed.
