Is it religiously appropriate to send wreaths or flowers to a funeral?

Sending wreaths or flowers to funeral ceremonies or placing them on graves does not benefit the deceased in any way. Moreover, such expenditures are considered wasteful since they are not a proper use of resources. Therefore, it is more appropriate to donate the money that would be spent on a wreath to charitable organizations or the poor, with the intention of gifting the reward to the soul of the deceased.
