Is ritual bathing (ghusl) required after giving birth by cesarean section?

Giving birth by cesarean section is considered the same as normal delivery in terms of postpartum bleeding (nifas). If no blood comes from the womb after a cesarean, the woman should perform ghusl at the first opportunity to purify herself from the state of nifas. If there is bleeding from the womb, she must perform ghusl after the bleeding stops. (Serahsî, el-Mebsût, 3/210; Mevsılî, el-İhtiyâr, 1/12)
