Is there a specific time for performing the funeral prayer? Can the burial of the deceased be delayed?

There is no specific time for performing the funeral prayer; it can be performed at any time of the day. However, unless there is a necessity, it is not appropriate to perform it during the disliked times (Muslim, Salâtü’l-müsâfirîn, 293 [831]). It is more appropriate to perform the funeral prayer and bury the deceased promptly without unnecessary delay (Tirmidhi, Salât, 13 [171]; Janaiz, 73 [1075]).

However, the funeral may be delayed for a short period in order to allow more people to attend, or to inform relatives, friends, neighbors, and others who have rights over the deceased so that they can fulfill their final duties and attend the funeral ceremony.
