Should a person wait for a while before performing ablution after urinating?

Istibra refers to waiting for a while and taking certain actions after relieving oneself in order to ensure that urination has completely ceased. Care should be taken to cleanse any drops or leakage that may remain in the urinary tract after urination. Once complete dryness is achieved in this way, ablution may be performed. However, depending on the individual, circumstances, and age, there may sometimes be more or less leakage remaining in the urinary canal after urination. It is appropriate to wait for a while to make sure that this leakage has stopped. (Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar, 1/344)

If a person performs ablution without paying attention to istibra after urinating and experiences discharge after ablution, their ablution is invalidated and they must perform it again. (Marghinani, al-Hidaya, 1/17-18) Furthermore, if cleaning is not done properly and any remaining urine leakage contaminates the clothing and reaches a certain extent (if it covers an area the size of the palm), it invalidates the prayer. (Mawsili, al-Ikhtiyar, 1/31)

For those who do not experience leakage after cleaning themselves following urination, there is no harm in performing ablution immediately without waiting. A person who is careful about istibra and cleanliness should not give in to unnecessary doubts or misgivings.
