What is the ruling on standing up when a funeral procession passes by?

According to our religion, all human beings are worthy of respect, whether they are Muslim or not. There are verses in the Qur’an that refer to this aspect of humanity. (al-Isra, 17/70) Just as a person is worthy of respect while alive, they are also deserving of respect after death. For this reason, it is necessary to avoid any behavior that would violate this dignity, whether after death before burial or while in the grave after burial. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stood up for a passing funeral, and when those present informed him that it was a Jewish funeral, he said, “Was he not a human being?” (Bukhari, Janaiz, 49 [1312]; Nasa’i, Janaiz, 46 [1921]). Another hadith on this subject states: “When you see a funeral, stand up until it passes.” (Bukhari, Janaiz, 47 [1308]) Therefore, if possible, standing up when a funeral procession passes by is in accordance with the Sunnah.
